1642 Charles I Shrewsbury Mint Halfpound - ex Morrieson 24th November 1933

£4,800

Charles I (1625-1649), Shrewsbury mint (1642), Half-Pound, 1642, mm. two pellets on obv., none on rev., King on horseback left, plume behind, ground line below, Declaration in two lines, three Shrewsbury plumes and mark of value above, date below, (Morr. D-2; SCBI Brooker 802, same dies; N 2366; S 2922) Weight 60.18 grams

Toned Very fine+, very rare with a superb pedigree. Interestingly the marks in the obverse field have been listed in the past as tooling, however this isnt the case. Brooker 802 is from the same dies as this very rare Halfpound and it exhibits the same raised lines thus these markings on the dies used to mint this huge coin.
