1633 -34 Charles I Pattern mm Portcullis Shilling - 1 of 5 known

Charles I (1625-1649), Tower mint under the King (1625 - 42), Pattern Shilling, Group D/E, attributed to Thomas Rawlins, in silver, mm. portcullis, crowned bust left in collar and armour, both arches of crown unjewelled, rev. Oval scroll-garnished shield between c r, no inner circles, comma stops over partly-erased rosettes,  (Sharp D5/E1; N 2698).

1 of just 5 examples we have traced, of fine workmanship, struck on a full and round, Extremely Rare. This the younger sibling of the extraordinary Pattern mm Portcullis Halfcrown that sold for a huge £34,000 at the Brian Dawson sale.
