1644 Charles I Oxford Mint Halfcrown - Bull 607I - "Just 2 in private hands"
Charles I (1625 - 49) Oxford Mint (1642 - 46) Halfcrown, 1644, Late briot style horseman with long grass below, Oxford plume in field behind. Rev. Declaration in two lines Large central Oxford plume 2 either side flanked by Rosettes, Date and OX below flanked by Rosettes. mm Colon + Rosette + Plume/ Colon + Rosette + Colon (S.2966; N - Brooker - : Bull 607I) weight 14.86 grams
This an extremely rare variety of which just 4 exist, with just 2 in private hands. The other known examples are the ex Lockett specimen, Ex British Museum specimen (ex Montagu) and an example in the Ashmolean Museum. Struck on an irregular shaped flan however of good weight, with some remains of excavation however approaching near Very fine in grade.
